So, you’re considering undergoing a laser treatment? Laser treatments are great for skin rejuvenation, pigmented and vascular lesions and resurfacing, as well as hair removal. Before you go under the light, here are a few things you should know:
1. Find a board-certified plastic surgeon that has experience using a variety of lasers. This way, the doctor can make the best recommendation on treatment for your skin type.
2. Don’t request that your doctor only use a particular laser on you. Instead, explain what skin issues you would like to address and allow your doctor to offer the best solution.
3. Try to avoid laser treatments if you have a tan, even if it is from a bottle. The laser light is attracted to skin pigment, so the darker you are the greater your risk of complications.
4. If the doctor is not the one administering the laser, make sure the person who is (be it a Physician Assistant or otherwise) is permitted to do so under your state’s law.

With the growing popularity of lip augmentation we
have also seen a growing a number of ‘trout pouts’. ‘Trout pout’, which
is increasingly prevalent in Hollywood, is when someone has had too
much filler injected into their lips, leaving their mouth to look like
that of a fish. While lips like Angelina Jolie are a highly desired
trait, patients may be weary of undergoing lip augmentation due to the
growing number of excessively injected celebrities.
To help shield patients from syringe-happy doctors, one Miami
physician created a training method for lip augmentation. The upper lip
ideally is 70% of the size of the lower lip. ‘Trout pout’ can occur
when a physician injects an equal amount of filler into both the upper
and lower lip. The Vermillion Dollars Lips (VDL) is a classification
and training system that was fashioned to help pair patients with their
ideal lip shape and volume.
