What is a brachioplasty?
An arm lift or brachioplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the under portion of the upper arm from the underarm region to the elbow.
How do I know if I am a candidate for arm lift or liposuction of my arms?
When you look at your upper arms does your skin look sufficiently tight or does it seem to hang loosely?
If your upper arms are thick but the skin looks tight you may only need liposuction. If you skin looks like it hangs loosely then you may need an arm lift.
Who is the best candidate for an arm lift?
The best candidate for arm lift surgery is a healthy patient who does not mind exchanging significantly improved shape for a scar. Some patients are bothered by hanging skin and fat that is unattractive in sleeveless shirts, especially when waving their arms.
Where are the scars located for an arm lift?
The scar for a brachioplasty is hidden on the inside of the upper arm from the elbow to the crease of the arm pit. The scar is usually hidden when you stand and hold your arms normally at your side.
When can I exercise after an arm lift surgery?
Light exercises can be performed that do not involve lifting, pushing, or pulling anything with your arms over 10 lbs.
What should I expect for recovery?
You may experience temporary generalized discomfort, numbness of skin and/or incision discomfort. This will rapidly decrease over a few days. You will have some bruising and swelling
Will I have drains?
Yes you will have drains placed on each arm. You can plan to have drains in place for about one to two weeks after the surgery.
