How soon after a labiaplasty do I have to refrain from sexual intercourse?

You will need to refrain from any type of sexual intercourse (vaginal penetration) for at least 6 weeks

What is a labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that alters the appearance of the labia minora, labia majora and the folds of skin surrounding the vulva. A labiaplasty removes excess tissue from the labia.

Who is a good candidate for a labiaplasty?

 Women with larger or uneven vaginal lips are the best candidates for a labiaplasty. Women who have pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse. Women who have discomfort when wearing certain types of clothing.

Will I have a scar after a my labiaplasty?

 Yes you will have scars after a labiaplasty. The scars typically heal well, and they are difficult to detect once they are healed.

What type of anesthesia is used for a labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty can be done under local anesthesia with oral sedation or general anesthesia. Most patients prefer to have the procedure under local anesthesia with oral sedation because the postoperative recovery is immediate, and you do not have any of the postoperative recovery and discomfort from the general anesthesia which includes drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting. Local anesthesia with oral sedation is also significantly less costly than general anesthesia.

 

Will I have sutures?

Yes, you will have sutures in place after your labiaplasty. Generally, all the sutures in place are dissolvable. The external sutures can take up to two weeks to dissolve.

How old is too old to have a labiaplasty?

I do not have an age limit for a labiaplasty. Some women are are born with a large labia that can cause problems physically or emotionally. Parental consent is required for anyone under the age of 18.

Can I have a labiaplasty if I have not had children yet?

Absolutely, you may have a labiaplasty if you have not had children. If your labia is bothersome to you emotionally or physically there is no need to wait.

 

 

Will my sexual partner see or feel any changes resulting from my labiaplasty?

It is highly unlikely that a new sexual partner will know that you have the procedure. Scars from a labiaplasty tend to heal very well.
